Minus Amitabh Bachchan’s existing charm, there’s a reason why he always looked suave on the long-running quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, courtesy: designer Priya Patil. The stylist, who began her collaboration with the show in 2012, says that Big B’s outfit represents the show’s theme—Badlav (change)—this season. “[In keeping with the theme], I had to showcase a change in his costumes, yet not be drastic about it. I took suggestions from the production house, the channel, and Bachchan sir,” explains Patil.

While his wardrobe for the show still had three-piece suits, bandhgalas, and jodhpuris, Patil introduced some new elements. “[His collection now] includes comfortable fabrics [tweeds and flannels] and contrasting colour plays like black against maroon or blue against orange and black and white checked waistcoats with a black suit,” shares Patil, adding that the classic formals are accessorised with “new drapes, scarves, or stoles held together by a beautiful Swarovski broach. In the three-piece suits, I am playing with the collars of the shirts that have interesting piping on them. I am also adding tassels on the tuxedos.”

In Patil’s couture book, comfort takes precedence over style. “Sir is accommodating to trying out new changes as long as they are comfortable, nice, and not getting in the way of his performance while sitting on the highchair for hours. So, I have used soft fabrics like flannel and tweed a lot this time,” she concludes.
