Ayushmann Khurrana spoke to mid-day.com about the success of 'Dream Girl 2' and his desire to work in Malayalam cinema

Ayushmann Khurrana and Fahad Faasil

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently basking in the success of his latest release 'Dream Girl 2'. The Raaj Shandilyaa-directorial is one of the three films released in the month of August that boosted the Box Office business of India. 'Dream Girl 2' also gave Ayushmann his biggest career opening of Rs 10.6 crore. "I am relieved, happy that we are part of this wave that has turned the fortunes of Hindi cinema at the box office. We have seen that in the past two years, there was a big lull in terms of box office success, not just with me but all the other actors. In fact, the month of August has been the most fruitful and most commercially sweet month in the history of Hindi cinema, and 'Dream Girl 2' has been a part of this, I am fortunate and we are blessed," says an ecstatic Ayushmann while talking to mid-day.com.

Ayushmann Khurrana says that Dream Girl 2 was never meant for the woke audience and the film has reached its desired audience. During the pandemic, there were talks on OTT besting Theatres and content taking over superstardom. When asked what he thinks of these discussions now, the actor said, "Conspiracy theories will change every six months or a year. Nothing is put in golden words like this is going to happen. Nothing is forever, it is ever-changing, ever-evolving. It is like a curve. like theatres are back and sequels are working and more than that the films with mass palette they are working more in theatricals. So theatres are back and how! I am glad this has happened. and I hope this era continues off-course there will be a perfect balance between OTT and theatrical content. We have to just choose the  right.medium."

The 'Doctor G' actor is also one of the rare Hindi actors to have his films remade in the South cinema. With many actors working across industries, Ayushmann who has so far only dabbled in Hindi cinema, expressed interest to work in Malayalam cinema. "I would like to work in South Cinema especially Malayalam cinema. I am a huge Fahadh Faasil fan and if I get a chance would love to collaborate with him because I think the kind of cinema he does resonates with my core; like Kumbalangi Nights'. I like the soundtrack of the film. Malayalam cinema is simple, close to the milieu, and it is rooted.
