As a then-aspiring actor, Ali Fazal remembers taking delight in the beauty of Satyajit Ray’s works as he watched Pather Panchali (1955), Charulata (1964) and Ghare Baire (1984), among others. Little did he know then that some day, he will pay a cinematic tribute to India’s greatest filmmaker. The actor is part of Ray, Netflix’s anthology of four stories inspired by the auteur’s work. While the team is tight-lipped about the project, it is known that Fazal shot for his short film in Aurangabad in January under the watchful eyes of director Srijit Mukherjee.

Fazal, who holds the project close to his heart, says, “Satyajit Ray’s world-class cinema has been admired by countless people. For me, his brilliance is unmatched. In my growing-up years, watching and studying his films was my passion. So, to be a part of something that honours the master of cinema is a matter of pride.” Sources say that his short film is a psychological drama, titled My Name Is Ipsit.
