OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi, was released in theatres on August 11. Prior to its release, the film received an ‘A’ rating from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Recently, Akshay and Pankaj surprised the crowd by joining them in a theatre, where the actor stated that this film should be shown in schools.

In a video doing the rounds on the internet, Akshay was seen interacting with the fans and asking them if they liked the film. Akshay then said, "Kamaal ki baat bataun, pehli adult film hai, joh teenagers ke liye bani hai. Actually, yeh sab school main dikhana chahiye (The funny thing is that this is the first adult film that is made for teenagers. This film should be shown in schools)."

Earlier in a media interaction, Pankaj had opened up about the certification and said, "I wasn't anxious when the CBFC asked us for cuts, but I was surprised to know that we had gotten an 'A' certificate. The thought also didn't cross our minds; for example, when we made Wasseypur, we knew it would be an A-certified film. This one was a surprise. I felt bad that kids aged 12–18, for whom this film could have been very educational, would not be able to watch it. But now there is no point in discussing it, we all should move on."

Since the release of the movie, the public has questioned the CBFC's decision to give it an 'A' certificate. While commenting on the viral video, one user wrote, "U/A certificate should be given as sex education is very important". Another user wrote, "Deserve UA certificate".

Helmed by Amit Rai, the film has received good reviews from both critics and viewers. The film has seen a considerable jump in its collection as well. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media account and shared, "The glowing word of mouth has come into play… #OMG2, as predicted, shows EXCELLENT GROWTH on Day 2… The solid gains at national chains - despite #Gadar2 juggernaut - is a clear indicator that #OMG2 has found acceptance… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 15.30 cr. Total: ₹ 25.56 cr. #India biz."
