Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal mourn the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar

'Bharat Ratna' Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6 at 92 at the Breach Candy Hospital. She was admitted last month after testing positive for Covid-19

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, is no more. Lataji passed away at the age of 92. She was admitted last month after testing positive for Covid-19.


Condolences began pouring for the singer from the Hindi film industry. Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Paresh Rawal, Ananya Panday all remembered the legendary singer and her unparalleled contribution to Cinema. Akshay Kumar wrote- "Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hain, Gar Yaad Rahe…and how can one forget such a voice! Deeply saddened by the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar ji, my sincere condolences and prayers. Om Shanti."



Ajay Devgn had this to say- "An icon forever. I will always savour the legacy of her songs. How fortunate were we to have grown up listening to Lataji’s songs. Om Shanti. My deepest condolences to the Mangeshkar family."

Paresh Rawal wrote- "NUMB."

Dia Mirza shared a picture of the legendary singer and tweeted- "Lata Mangeshkarji’s voice will always be India’s voice. Our glorious nightingale of India. Our Bharat Ratna."

Karan Johar expressed- "Today heaven truly gained the voice of an angel. I grew up listening to Lata ji’s song and as I mourn her loss today - I know with absolute confidence that unki “awaaz hi pehchan” hai & she has left an indelible mark on our Indian culture for many generations to come. And today the words of my favourite song resonate very deeply in my heart as I sing - lag jaa gale, ki phir yeh haseen raat ho naa ho…shaayad phir iss janam mein mulaakat ho naa ho."

Ananya Panday also shared a picture of hers on her Instagram story with the heartbreak emoji.

This is how Shahid Kapoor expressed his emotions on the news of the singer's unfortunate demise- "An icon a legend .. words will always fall short. Thank you for your glorious voice Lata ji. It will resonate worldwide for generations to come. RIP ."

Anil Kapoor too wrote a heartfelt note and said- "Heartbroken, but blessed to have known & loved this incredible soul...Lataji holds a place in our hearts that will never be taken by anyone else. That's how profoundly she has impacted our lives with her music. May she rest in peace & light up the heavens with her brightness."

Shabana Azmi wrote- "Lataji ..our national treasure no more ..her voice lit up our lives , gave us solace when we were sad , gave strength when we were low..Thank you Lataji and RIP."

Taapsee Pannu wrote- "Hope you keep mesmerising the heavens as well with your voice and presence."

Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia and tested positive for the novel Coronavirus earlier in January. She was on the ventilator for weeks but then on January 28, she was taken off the ventilator as she showed signs of improvement.

On Saturday, her health condition deteriorated again, and she was put back on the ventilator. Her sister Asha Bhosle and actor Shraddha Kapoor visited the hospital late Saturday night to meet the ailing singer.
