“Director Harish Vyas envisioned a rock version of the poem by Bulleh Shah, and, as composers who love to create rock songs since our college days, we were obviously excited,” says Adil Rasheed, adding that they went on to subsequently work on the tracks, Mashhoor hai tu, Nazdeekiyan, and Hai nahin.
“Each and every instrument was recorded live. We were lucky enough to have recorded with some of the best musicians, and mixing engineers of our industry. Owing to the freedom that we were given, we could record rare instruments like the double bass, and classical guitars.”
The duo that also composed the film’s background score says they enjoy creating music for both elements in equal measure. “A score requires one to understand the emotion of the film as well as that of the characters. It’s a magical process. For songs, we usually spend a lot of time cracking the [melody]. Oni sits with the piano; I noodle with my guitar. Once we mutually agree on a composition, we live with it and enhance it further.”
The Disney+Hotstar film, that released on Friday, sees Jha in the role of a homosexual man who strikes an unlikely friendship with a gay woman.
