Aarti Chabria: My mother makes the best handmade organic cheek and lip tints

Aarti Chabria joins mid-day.com as we unveil the beauty and makeup favourites of the stars with 'Vanity secrets.'

Your favourite make-up product?
I love Bobbi Brown products and my favourite makeup products from Mac is the ‘Smoulder’ kohl pencil.

The first makeup product you bought as a teenager?
Kryolan eye liner - evergreen product!

The product you wanted to steal from your mom or sister?
My mother makes the best handmade organic cheek/lip tints, but she gifts them to me.

Your skincare routine?
The three steps by Clinique. 1. Facewash 2. Tone 3. Moisturise all for ‘my skin type’.

How did you learn to look after your skin and do make-up correctly?
Experience is the best teacher. I realised the best way to take care of your skin is making sure you cleanse it - tone it - and moisturise it before bed time, and use a primer  before you lap on any makeup. Doing TVC’s as a kid, I always had different make-up artistes doing my face since my early years, and from every experience I learnt a tip or two, by the time I reached 18, I had learnt a lot and I still keep learning to date.. The most important thing about makeup that I have learnt the hard way is that ‘less is more’ The lesser the make-up, the more beautiful you look. The moment the base and the layers start showing - it doesn’t look appealing anymore.

The items one will always find in your make-up kit?
I absolutely love make-up, even though I have moved to using very little recently. My make-up kit is always upto date because shopping for make-up is therapeutic. Just trying on different colours and textures gets me in bliss. Kevin Aucoin / Clinique concealer, Smashbox primer,Urban Decay eyeshadows, and kohl pencil, Mac and Estee Lauder Liquid to mattes, Becca bronzers, Makeup forever lipsticks, Mac eyeshadows, Stilla glosses, mascaras,  a whole load of brushes and so much more.

Make-up or skincare goof ups from the past?
Let’s talking about the learnings rather than the good ups. If you don’t do your ‘smokey eyes look’ right, you can land up looking like someone socked you. Never ever do dark lips with dark eyes unless you’re sure you want to look like a vamp, and trust me many people like that look,  but if you want to look all glammed up and sensuous, keep the lips, nude and glossy. Full Of Lust from Mac, works best!

The make-up trend you wish to try?
I would like to slowly but surely move to all plant based, organic makeup only. The more chemical free our lives start to become, the better for our health and for the world around us!

The make-up product you would never be caught wearing?
 I never say never!

The make-up trick that always works for you?
When you’re doing a natural look, make sure your eyebrows are filled up well, but not too dark towards the inner corner near the nose, unless you like the ‘manly’ look. Filling up the gaps if there are any, using a colour one shade lighter than your actual eyebrow color, and keeping the eyebrows look shapely and thick always makes the face look soft and beautiful.

The skincare tip that always works for you?
Drinking lots of water, sleeping 8 hours, and keeping happy works for the skin, like no skin care product or makeup ever will. Meditate, exercise, sweat it out, and love and laugh a lot!
