Like the citizens of the country, Bollywood too has been facing the brunt of Narendra Modi's demonetisation move, over the past three weeks.

Given the dismal performance of Shujaat Saudagar's Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer, 'Rock On 2', which released on the weekend that followed the move, producers are petrified of facing the Friday fear.

Filmmaker Vishal Pandya, whose upcoming movie the Sana Khan-starrer, 'Wajah Tum Ho', was set to release on December 2, along with Sujoy Ghosh's 'Kahaani 2', featuring Vidya Balan, has now deferred the release of the film by two weeks. T-Series' Bhushan Kumar, the producer of the romance-thriller, also seconds Pandya's opinion.

"We were clashing with 'Kahaani 2'. The films are of the same genre but they have their individual target audience. Ours is a massy movie that will earn well in single screens in the interior parts of the country," reasons Pandya.

He further adds, "Over the past week, the cash situation has drastically improved but people's spending power is still low. In smaller towns and circuits, people still use cash. Trade pundits and distributors say that the market is still in a wobbly space and so we decided to shift the release," he says.

The director further asserts that the December 16 release date will benefit their collections since they would not clash with another film.

"When the market is already pressed, clashing with another film may make matters worse. As filmmakers we need to be patient and plan wisely so that everyone involved recovers their cost," he signs off.
