They are waiting their turn to sparkle in the starry firmament. Some are in their teens, others in their early 20s, but these bunch of star kids are already generating curiosity. Keen to follow in the footsteps of their parents, the youngsters already have launch vehicles in place.

Recently, there was buzz that Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter, Sara, and Shahid Kapoor’s half brother, Ishaan Khattar (from his mom Neelima Azim’s second marriage to actor Rajesh Khattar) would be part of the second installment of Karan Johar’s franchise, Student of the Year (2012). While nothing is official yet, the two are already being projected as tomorrow’s stars.
Ishaan’s mom, actress Neelima Azim, strikes a note of caution. “It is better that things are said at the right time. It’s too early to say anything about Ishaan’s launch right now. He is still too young.”

Stepping in style
There has also been continuous buzz about Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughters, Jhanvi and Khushi, treading their mother’s footsteps. The two are often spotted in designer threads, alongside their mom, dazzling on the red carpet and other glitzy events. Though Sri maintains that it is important that they complete their education before taking on Bollywood, the girls are to the manor born if their social media snapshots are any indication. For now, they are spoilt for choice whether to take their first step in a Bollywood flick or a South Indian flick.

Most kids would hate to grow up, but this bunch cannot wait as arclights beckon. While they complete their studies, the grooming for Bollywood unfolds side-by-side. A while ago, Saif had confessed that if his daughter wanted to be an actress, she would first need to lose weight. So, while Sara earns her US varsity degree (and knocks off those inches), her Bollywood dreams are simultaneously taking shape.

In the footsteps
In most cases, it is a given that a star’s offspring will follow suit in the same profession. As actor Suniel Shetty explains, “I knew from the beginning that my children (Athiya and Ahaan) wanted to act.” While Athiya was launched by Salman Khan in his film, Hero, last year, Ahaan is presently in the grooming phase. Adds Shetty, “Ahaan is 20, so we will have to wait for another two to three years. I think 24 is a right age, as guys look very young on screen.”

So is Ahaan bodybuilding for the moment? “He has been into fitness since the age of 10. It is a continuous process, you cannot build your body overnight.”
Another star waiting his turn is Sunny Deol’s son, Karan, better known as Rocky. He worked as an assistant director in the home production, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2012), which starred his grandfather, Dharmendra, uncle Bobby Deol as well as his dad. With such a legacy, he will be the third generation of Deols in tinsel town.

Informs Sunny, “Both my sons, Karan and Rajveer, want to be actors. I will launch Karan, who turns 24 this year, first. I will direct the film. Then we will focus on Rajveer.” Rumours are rife that Rocky will be cast in the sequel of his dad’s hit flick, Betaab (1983), though Sunny is still looking for the right script.
Workshop time
Veteran actor Jagdeep’s daughter, Muskkaan Jaferi, has started auditioning on her own. She refrains from name dropping — her dad and half brothers, Jaaved and Naved Jaferi — during auditions. Muskkaan has already bagged ads while honing her skills doing theatre workshops. Did we tell you she sings too? “I always wanted to be an actress. I could not think of doing anything else.”
Says her father Jagdeep, best remembered for his character Soorma Bhopali in Sholay (1975), “My sons (Jaaved and Naved Jaferi) have shown their talent. I am confident that Muskkaan will be a shining star too.”
Star kids have it easy?
Not really, says Sunny. “There is a lot of talent out there, and not all of them have any big family connections. In fact, star kids face more pressure to be better or as good as their predecessors.” In the case of Rocky, he has Garam Dharam (his granddad) and the dhai kilo ka haath (his father’s) to contend with.
When it comes to comparisons, Ishaan is equally adept on the dance floor like Shahid. He has been training with Shiamak Davar where Sasha also honed his dancing skills. As his mom Neelima says, “Ishaan after all is an artiste.” And like his elder bro, he is quite a ladies’ man. He has already been linked to Black (2005) actress, Ayesha Kapoor!
