Director Vikramaditya Motwane, who is set to direct the cinematic adaptation of Chakra: The Invincible (2013), says that since India doesn't have a superhero culture, making the film will be a challenge. "We don't have a superhero culture [in India]. Comic books and superheroes are part of the American culture. It's difficult to transport into an alien culture and make a film on superheroes, when you don't have a base for that," Motwane said.

Chakra: The Invincible is the first Indian superhero created by comic legend Stan Lee. According to reports, Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Films has teamed up with Lee's POW! Entertainment and Graphic India for the project.

Motwane added that Indian superhero films tend to mimic the West. "All the superhero films around the world are the same. So, how do we compete with a Spider-Man film? It's a challenge, but we will give it our best shot."
