Chitrangda says her struggle to achieve work-life balance the reason behind five-year hiatus from films
Chitrangada Singh
Last seen in I Me Aur Main and Inkaar in 2013, Chitrangda Singh is back on the scene — while Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 and Baazaar see her returning to the big screen, Soorma marks her debut as producer. Admitting that there have been long gaps between her films, the actor says matter-of-factly, "It is because I'm unable to juggle my personal and professional life."

Aware that her celebrity status implies that the media and fans have keen interest in her personal life, Singh says she constantly attempts to keep son Zorawar away from the hullabaloo. "I have nothing to hide, but I do not like people forming opinions on my personal life, especially in the case of a complicated relationship. I would hate my school-going son, who lives in Delhi, reading about it or being questioned. I don't want him to be exposed to all this. He is at a vulnerable age. I want him to lead a normal life."
On the work front, Singh says her new role of producer on Soorma has been an eye-opener of sorts. "I have so much respect for writers, directors, and now, producers. It is much easier being an actor. It took me over two-and-a-half years to turn a thought into reality."
Directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma, that hit screens yesterday, tells the story of hockey champ Sandeep Singh who made a miraculous comeback after a near-fatal injury in 2006.
"I met Sandeep through a common friend. I had no clue about his inspiring journey. Here was a story that had to be told," says Singh, adding that she chose Ali for his ability to depict emotions honestly without any melodrama. "I like the way he combines the commercial and realistic aspects in a film."
