Trend alert! B-Town divas give a sexy twist to the elegant saris

Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

The world seems to be embracing the versatile sari with a fiesty edge of sorts. If there’s probably one traditional Indian trend that does not get frumpy or oft-worn, it’s the sari. Concocted dressing or the mix and match trend is enjoying quite a moment on the fashion radar and tinseltown’s favourite fashionistas are all but shirking away from playing around with this fun trend. From flirting with interesting draping styles to wearing print on print to layering it with jackets and coats, the graceful statement is in vogue and how. With the festive season around the corner, we take a look at this blossoming fashion trend and scan some of the most interesting silhouettes and cuts donned by B-Town’s daring fashion connoisseurs who’re more than abreast with the ins and outs of the world of clothing.

The gown look
This might be the one downer on this list.

Kareena Kapoor

One, because you can’t tell if either Kareena Kapoor or Deepika Padukone are wearing a saree or a gown and two because it doesn’t fully give justice to either of the two trends.

That said, both actresses looked elegant in their seperate emboridered numbers. Pics/ Yogen Shah

The dhoti
Fusion fashion has staged quite a comeback and looks every bit the rage.

Sonam Kapoor

Embodying an interesting traditional ease and youthful feel, we quite like what Sonam Kapoor has done with this monochrome sari, yet again exhibitng her affinity for risque styling. Low point: this might be a little complicated to drape, but it still gets brownie points for being such a glamourous style statement.

The bikini
Priyanka Chopra nails two trends in one go. She sported the bikini sari look with panache and also played around with the fun colour blocking trend.

The bikini sari look, though risky, allows you to wear a bikini blouse without baring too much skin and yet look sexy, while the colour blocking trend breaks away from the neutrality and brings that playful motif to the attire. Kudos.

All for punk
Are we loving this or are we loving this? If there’s one Indian actress who can play around with punk all too effortlessly, it’s Shruti Haasan.

She made a recent red-carpet appearance in a rich blue hued saree. Twist to the tale? She wore her hair in a grunge top bun with cornrows, and teamed it up with punk accessories. She nailed this almost tongue-in-cheek look.

The scarf look
This drape is interesting. Take a cue from Maria Goretti and drape the pallu all the way around your neck.

Make it look like a scarf or a neck accessory without taking away from the essence of wearing an ethnic saree.

Wear with pants
Instead of the usual petticoat, Dia Mirza sported a sheer saree with black leggings and a crop top and totally owned the look. This might be one of the most eye-catching and simple ways of wearing the sari.

It translates well from day to night wear and can be worn for an office event or a cocktail bash. You can try the look with a peplum top or a full-sleeved jacket too.

The knotted look
If you look closely, Aditi Rao Hydari has made a knot around her pallu and let it lie loose.

This can be done in the twinkling of an eye and gives that chic spin to your look. Not too high-browed and classy at the same time.
