There is sense of pressure, says singer Zanai Bhosle

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle's granddaughter Zanai says she feels a sense of pressure given the illustrious family of great singers she comes from.

"There is a sense of pressure as there are expectations from me. I would want to continue singing and I would work hard towards it. My grandmother says I have a melodious voice," Zanai told PTI.

Zanai, daughter of Anand Bhosle (son of Asha Bhosle), said she wants to imbibe humility from her grandmother.

"I would want to be as humble as my grandmother... she treats everyone equally," she said.

The 14-year-old singer has recorded a song with India's first transgender band - 6 Pack.

"They (transgenders) are ill treated in the society. I hope my song makes a difference in the way transgenders are treated in our society. I feel everyone should be treated equally...after all we are human being," Zanai said.

The song is a modern take on the popular Maharashtrian folk number, "Hil Pori Hila".

"It's an old song by my grandmother Usha Mangeshkar. We are coming up with new version. We have changed everything except the initial lines 'Hil Pori Hila'," she said.

Zanai hopes that Usha Mangeshkar likes the song.

When asked about the comparisons that may be drawn with the original song, she says, "It's a completely different song.. we have recreated it."

Produced by Y-Films, the band's song with Zanai will be out on March 16.
