Unconventional dude
Effort and hard work are the only two mantras to stay ahead in Tamil film industry . It doesn't matter whose son or daughter you are. From my personal experience, being an actor's son has never helped me. My father (Tamil actor Sivakumar) never selected scripts, produced films or made recommendations for me.
I am what I am because of my efforts. In fact, the first five years of my career in Tamil film industryu00a0 were quite bad. I made a lot of mistakes and my films didn't do well. It is after I did a film called Nandha that people noticed me. It was then that I realised that unconventional roles suit me more than the mainstream ones.u00a0u00a0
Regional charm
I respect every industry, but I strongly believe that every actor is rooted to a particular region. And every region has its own sensibilities, culture and beliefs. I think all of these are best brought out on screen by a person belonging to that same set of people.
Also, very few of us have a global acceptance. Not everyone has the face, acting skills, language flexibilities that can cater to a larger set of audience.
Also, we don't really have to move to other industries. We have excellent world-class directors, technicians and musicians like Mani Sir, Rahman Sir and many others right here in Tamil Nadu. Now even our stories are accepted on the national level. So there's really no need for us to leave our glory and establish ourselves in another industry.
Reality check
Down South, we are a part of every household. Every member of the family relates to the characters we play on screen. From a teenager to a grandfather, no one feels left out. People say that we are treated as Gods here, but it's more than that.
We are a part of their day-to-day life and we personally belong to them. People's affection is above our acting skills and powers. Moreover, the cinematic experience and visualisation differs from Hindi films.
Bollywood mostly depicts the high class, large-than-life lifestyle. I'm not saying that we shouldn't show such a lifestyle, but the maximum population in our country comprises middle class families and we need to showcase their style of living so that they can relate to our stories.
