I have no idea why it is being deduced that the film has been shelved," says Amole Gupte of his Saina Nehwal biopic, which sees Shraddha Kapoor step into the ace badminton player's shoes. The film that was initially slated to roll in October last year has seen its fair share of delays, thus casting a cloud of uncertainty over it. However, the director puts all speculation to rest as he asserts, "We will start shooting this September. It's the kind of film that requires brewing period."

Kapoor, on her part, has been undergoing intense prep to bring Nehwal's journey to the big screen. The actor, while juggling her other assignments, has been training in badminton for several months now. Gupte states that he, too, has given his heart and soul to the project. "I have lived this film for two years. I have been making constant trips to Hyderabad, meeting Saina and taking notes. It was a mammoth task to make her journey into a script."

The director, who is predominantly known for helming movies targeted at kids, rues that the country doesn't have a conducive environment for children's films. Ahead of the television premiere of Sniff (2017) on &Pictures, he says, "Films in India are more about what the parents want to watch rather than what kids like. If you take the example of The Jungle Book [2016], it worked because parents wanted to see the film."
