'Udta Punjab' has been embroiled in more than one controversy over the last few days. Rumours of all kinds made the rounds, which included the Censor Board not issuing the certificate to CBFC asking the makers to make 89 cuts. There was also a strong buzz about Punjab being asked to drop from the film's title by CBFC.
Putting all rumours to rest is the latest development in the case. The CBFC has asked the film for 13 cuts like removal of name Punjab in background. Some of the other cuts demanded are: Delete abusive words from songs, and words like MP Party, election and MLA. Don't name the dog Jackie Chan, remove scenes of actor urinating in front of a crowd, and close shots of injecting drugs. (Here's the list of full 13 cuts)
Here's what Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan has to say on the issue:
"There are many things I'd like to say about how massively disappointing the authorities have been but for now I'd prefer to focus on how very important it is for our nation's people to watch this film and learn what it has to offer. I'm not only speaking from a personal front, being that I'm one of the many who've put their blood and sweat into making a picture about the drug epidemic that's plaguing Punjab (a reality I have seen first hand), but also as an audience. I hope we can watch âu00c2u0080ª#udtapunjabâu00c2u0080¬ the way it is meant to be watched."
