Rangoon, set against the backdrop of World War II, is Shahid Kapoor's first brush with a period film and his third collaboration with director Vishal Bhardwaj after Kaminey (2009) and Haider (2014). However, alleged on-set tension with co-star Kangana Ranaut over creative calls were said to have made the shoot tough for Sasha.
During a recent chat with hitlist, when we asked the actor to react to Kangana's infamous statement about the film starring 'three heroes' (Shahid, Saif and the actress herself), he chuckled, "Who are these three? According to me, the heroes of the film are director Vishal Bharadwaj and producer Sajid Nadiadwala. You will have to find the third one. As far as I know, there are three principal characters in Rangoon."
Shahid pointed out that being part of projects helmed by revered filmmakers like Bhardwaj and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it is they and not the actor who is the real star. "These filmmakers create their world and provide actors an opportunity to showcase themselves. It is an actor's honour to be working with them. We are all playing characters according to the director's vision."
Rangoon, which was extensively shot in Arunachal Pradesh, is currently in post-production and the actor is yet to see the rushes. "I usually remember everything I see on the monitor. I have not seen the edited version, but have a great visual memory, so I know exactly what has been shot."
