The case dates back to April 19, 2009 when Dutt was campaigning for the Samajwadi Party in Barabanki. The actor allegedly said he would like to offer Mayawati a jaadu ki jhappi, the catchphrase from Munnabhai MBBS (2003). A case was filed against Dutt for insulting the modesty of a woman and for using obscene words in public.
