Last month, video-streaming platform Netflix announced its first Indian original series, Sacred Games, which is the official adaptation of Vikram Chandra's eponymous 2006 novel. Based in Mumbai, it explores the underbelly of crime, terrorism and underworld. Saif Ali Khan, who plays the lead, is excited about the project. "We have a stellar cast and crew. I hope we do justice to the book," he says.

Khan plays police officer Sartaj Singh in the web series and starts shooting next week. "I've been reading the book; it's quite long, but interesting. I often meet Vikram to discuss my character. I am working on this platform for the first time. It's challenging, as we are competing with international shows. We want to make the most of the opportunity," says the actor, adding that since the medium is free from censorship, the makers will be able to tell the story well.
"I don't like too many constraints. The book is so layered and to be able to tell the story without approaching various institutions and seeking their permission feels great."
