It's raining fat paychecks for Ranbir Kapoor
It's raining fat paychecks for Ranbir Kapoor. The four-film-old actor has gone from being worth a mere 50 lakhs in Saawariya (2007) to a whopping 12 crores for his next film with Imtiaz Ali.
An industry source notes, "Ranbir is already in the Top Ten bracket. He is outdoing himself with every new filmu00a0 and his fan base is increasing with every passing day.
Rising popularity
This year, he has had two releases in Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and both have done good business and have received critical acclaim. For Ajab Prem..., Ranbir got one of the most sensational openings across the board. It not only opened well in the major cities but also didu00a0 roaring business in 'B' and 'C' grade centers. Such a feat for a solo-hero film is only expected from the Khans Salman, Aamir, SRK and Akshay Kumar, who have been ruling the roost for a while."
It is learnt that after Yash Raj's Bachna Ae Haseeno producers readily paid Ranbir Rs 5 crore for a film but now seeing his growing popularity, filmmakers are willing to throw ridiculous amounts his way to woo him. For the new Sajid Nadiad-wala movie Anjaana Anjaani Ranbir has taken home a cool Rs 8 crore."
Why settle for less?
"Now Kapoor has signed Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision's next to be directed by Imtiaz Ali for Rs 12 crores.
Ranbir has wanted to work with Imtiaz and would've readily signed the film for a far lesser amount. But he is being offered big money, so why should be refuse?," asked a trade pundit.
The spokesperson for Shree Ashtavinayak says, "It is true that we have signed Ranbir for Imtiaz's new movie but not for 12 crores. As a part of the contract, we have with the actors we can't discuss the remuneration publicly anyways."
