Murder 3 Review - Blow dull, blow cold

The so-called Bhatt camp has a penchant for making films that deal heavily with intrigue. However, they don’t always hit the bull’s eye. More often than not, they repeat themselves on the surface. And considering the past two installments, Murder 3 is just another lacklustre addition to the franchise.u00a0

An official remake of the 2011 Columbian thriller 'The Hidden Face', Vishesh Bhatt’s directorial debut prefers to go with the formula. It has all the expected components in kind measure: hummable numbers, skin show, human frailties, introduction to hammy actors, et al. But it somehow doesn’t add up to the effect, especially when the genre is supposed to make your heart skip a beat. No, wait. It does accomplish that but only when the background score turns into background noise.

The plot follows a photographer (Randeep Hooda) and his ladylove (Aditi Rao Hydari) from South Africa to India. As the days pass by, she starts doubting whether she paid a huge price for fidelity. In order to assure herself, she puts her lover to test. And that’s when things go terribly wrong. For a viewer, it’d have been better if that had happened a bit earlier.

There’s barely a scene that ain’t out of the book. The actual thrill ensues only once the second half sets in motion. Except the climax, almost everything else appears been-there-done-that.

Speaking about the performance, Randeep is surprisingly wooden during emotional acts. Aditi seems fresh but she has had done better job in her short career. Making her Bollywood debut, Sara Loren manages to catch attention but acting school can’t be far away.u00a0

The film is more of a love triangle than a hardcore thriller as it makes the original Spanish film look like a masterpiece. u00a0
