Recreating the era that was graced by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, ace designer Ritu Beri returns to the Mumbai Fashion Week runway after three years and astounds audiences with a scintillating show, yet again
Ritu Beri had been giving the Mumbai Fashion Week a miss for the past three years in favour of a special 10-designer show at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) since September 2009, but with a scintillating show inspired by the beauties of the 1950s on Friday, the designer showed everyone what we were missing.

The show began in dramatic fashion, as model Jesse Randhawa strutted down the ramp in a Parisian gown extravagantly embellished with flowers, lace and long-layered cuffs. Jesse left no opportunity to flirt with the crowd and the cameras, setting the mood for what was to follow.
Next came a trendy denim romper, a blouse with long trailing sleeves, an embroidered lehenga with a lace bikini, a denim-layered dress, a peplum- printed embellished jacket, shorts and skin-tight trousers. The striking layered ballerina dress with jeans, and the asymmetrical creation of an embroidered biker jacket, and floor-length net/lace coats turned the show into a visual delight for the audience. The collection also included embellished jumpsuits, fur shrugs and two gowns in black and white.
Jesse returned to end the show in a black net creation with strategically placed white lace appliqué. Limiting the accessories to a crochet bonnet, her look was extremely feminine.
Ritu’s work around a soft colour palette of cream with hints of red, pink, blue, turquoise and yellow and the use of weaves like pure cotton with embroidery, made for a great show.
The designer’s excellence and expertise were evident from the show and her sense of style and international exposure added an edge to the collection.
