Riteish Deshmukh refuses to register himself as a voter in Mumbai. Prefers to cast his ballot in his native place so what if it is a far-flung village!

Riteish Deshmukh, son of Vilasrao Deshmukh former Maharashtra Chief Minister will cast his vote in his village Babhalgaon (eight kilometres from Latur) in Maharashtra.

Even though it takes almost 15 hours to travel there. The actor prefers to continue being registered there, rather than in Juhu in Mumbai, where he stays.

My roots are there!

Riteish says, "Every time during the elections, from the time I could vote, I've been going to Babhalgaon to vote. I was born there and have loads of friends apart from having our farm and home there.

It's convenient for me to change my voter's ID to Mumbai but I don't want to do that. My roots are there and I never want to forget them. I want to vote in the village I was born in. It's a different experience altogether."

The actor adds, "I take a day to travel to Babhalgaon and stay back for a few days. I am still in touch with my friends there. I have ended up voting for my father in the state elections. I vote for him because he's a good man."

Riteish feels voting is a must for the youth of India. "I certainly feel that when you have issues against the government or establishment like bad roads, economy, taxation, terrorism, etc you have to make the effort to vote. It's important to be a part of the process by casting a vote.

If you are bothered about what's happening to your country and want to raise a voice against issues plaguing it, go out there and vote to raise questions. It's not a holiday on voting day to watch a film or go for a picnic it's to vote for the love of your country!"

Apart from shooting for Ram Gopal Varma's Rann, Riteish (who is also an architect) will be travelling next month to Milan for the Architecture and Building Exhibition there.

"I'm designing my friend's home and a couple of offices in Mumbai so I will be attending the exhibition there to pick up some architectural stuff from there.

They have everything from furniture to tapestry and building materials; where we can order from the catalogue. It will be great fun also as a number of my friends are coming over for their work. It will be one grand get-together!"
