Karan Johar announces the launch of Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar in 'Dhadak'

Dharma head honcho Karan Johar will be launching Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's daughter Jhanvi Kapoor opposite, Ishaan Khattar, younger brother of Shahid Kapoor and son of Neelima Azim and Rajesh Khattar.

The debut of Jhanvi Kapoor, the elder daughter of actress Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor has been speculated for a long time. Jhanvi had been doing appearing at several social soirees and Bollywood parties, which prompted people to think that she would be making her debut soon. There were rumours that Karan Johar who launched Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra in Bollywood with his film 'Student Of The Year' was keen to mentor Jhanvi as well. There were rumours that she would star in 'Student Of The Year 2' as well, but Karan has made it official now that 'Dhadak' will be the launch vehicle of Jhanvi and Ishaan in Bollywood. The film will be helmed by Shashank Khaitan, director of 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' and 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania'.

Karan Johar has even announced the release date of the film which is July 6, 2018.

The movie is said to be based in rural India and is said to be based on the award-winning Marathi film 'Sairaat'.

Sridevi is like any other apprehensive parent as she awaits the commencement of her daughter's acting debut. "But, the excitement overrules the nervousness," the actor tells mid-day as Jhanvi's Bollywood film, the Karan Johar production 'Dhadak', is set to kick-off next month. Sridevi admits that as a mother, she "can't help but give her tips about everything - from how to dress to what she eats". Yet, the actor wants her elder daughter to chart her own trajectory in the industry. "Children have their own mind. When it comes to her work, I don't want to advise. She must cultivate her craft all by herself, make her own choices and chart her own path."

In an industry that is quick to pit actors against each other, parallels are already being drawn between Kapoor junior and Saif Ali Khan's daughter, Sara, also set to make her debut next year. Talking about the two aspiring artists, Sridevi says, "Competition can never be eliminated from this industry. There is nothing wrong with it. It keeps you on your toes, making you work harder. But, the biggest challenge lay in bettering your craft, and faring better than you did the last time." Jhanvi already finds an aide in Khan, a friendship that doesn't seem particularly peculiar to the veteran actor. "You don't have to turn your face away from each other just because you are pitted against one another at work," she says.
