Singers Kailash Kher and Anuradha Paudwal are among 150 personalities who will be conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
Kailash Kher told hitlist, "I feel overwhelmed and grateful. I am missing Maa and Pita ji today. They would have been proud. But I am sure they are smiling from up above. It's the love of my fans and well-wishers that has manifested into this big an honour."
Known for his desi pop-rock style, the Meerut-born artiste has been a crusader of folk and Sufi styles.
Anuradha Paudwal is a popular bhajan singer who has also had a hugely successful career as playback singer in the '90s. She says, "It feels great when your efforts are rewarded by the highest authority. I thank my fans for their love and well wishes."
The Padma awards will be officially announced tonight on the eve of Republic Day. The date of the distribution ceremony is yet to be declared.
President Pranab Mukherjee will present the honour to the winners.
Other eminent names on the Padma list include cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu, both to be conferred with the Padma Bhushan.
Captain of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli will also be given the Padma Shri.
