Though Indra Kumar is presently busy with the promotions of his adult comedy Great Grand Masti, the producer-director has already finalised his next project. He will finally roll out the long-in-the-planning sequel to his 1990 Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit-starrer Dil.

It will star his daughter Shweta Kumar, who was earlier seen in Karzzzz (2008) and Super Nani (2014).

Says a source, “For the last several years, Kumar had been planning Dil 2 and has now greenlighted the script for the sequel. He had earlier stated that he could not cast Aamir in the second outing as he would not fit the role now.”

Dil was a huge draw at the box office and its chartbusters included Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai, Mujhe Neend Na Aaye and Hum Pyaar Karne Wale.

Adds the source, “Since the music was the mainstay of the film, he is keen to recreate the magic yet again. He has also begun work on the music front for Dil 2.”

There was speculation that Kumar would cast newcomers, but now that he has pencilled in his daughter, he might cast a young, known hero opposite her.

Shweta’s Bollywood aspirations did not take off as the Himesh Reshammiya-starrer Karzzzz and the Rekha-starrer Super Nani proved to be damp squibs at the box office.

Sources add that Kumar Sr is hoping that Shweta’s third time (Dil 2) is a charm. We tried to get in touch with the filmmaker, but he remained unavailable for comment.
