Actress Swati Chitnis who has played the typical Gujarati woman in Jasuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family, a UP Thakurain in Mitwa Phool Kamal Ke will soon be seen in the upcoming movie, Road to Sangam. It is one project that the actress will never be able to forget.

She says "While I was shooting for it, I lost my husband. I decided to quit, but my parents and children didn't let me do that. Immediately after 14 days, I resumed my shooting in Allahabad." She tells CS more about the film and its making:

In the spotlight
I have been doing theatre since the last 30 years. In fact, my acting career started with one act plays in college. During that time working on the stage was 'the' thing as television had much lesser scope. So for me, theatre has always been my first priority. I have worked with people like Satyajeet Dubey, Vijaya Mehta and others, because of which my basics have become strong. After having done theatre for long, I can do any role with ease.

Marathi reform
Marathi cinema is now going through a huge revolution. With movies like Me Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy, Sukhant, Natrang, etc it is undergoing a positive change. The reason being that the Marathi audiences are once again coming back to the cinemas.
However, Marathi theatres too need the same change, the same revolution. A family of four will spend Rs 1,000 to watch a film in a multiplex, so why not go and watch a play, which will cost you half the price of a film? But as an industry and its member, we as actors have to realise that doing just one good play a year will not work. We have to create outstanding plays regularly to attract the audience.

Tough path
Road to Sangam is a unique concept for me. I am the only woman who's playing the lead. Though it's a short role, it's an important one. I play Paresh Rawal's wife who helps him to recover from the dilemma he is going through. It is the story of a man who has to decide who to be loyal tou00a0-- his religion or his principles.
Even though I lost my husband during the making of the film, the unit and crew were very supportive. It was then that I realised how strong a woman can be if she decides to be one!
