Besides scoring music for Hindi films, composer-singer Shekhar Ravjiani is equally focussed on independent projects. However, his songs are unlike what his contemporaries mostly churn out.

After his successful devotional single on Hanuman Chalisa that garnered over six lakh views on YouTube, Shekhar has now crafted one on the Gayatri Mantra. Amitabh Bachchan unveiled the single on Tuesday.

What inspired him to record the devotional track? Shekhar says, "The Gayatri Mantra unites one with the universe. Revered for generations but taken for granted today, the power of the mantra needs to be experienced by people, especially the youth. We live in difficult times and the only way for us to regain balance and strength is by looking within. I hope my interpretation of the divine prayer helps listeners find strength, peace and tranquility."

Shekhar has a personal connect with the chant, too. He says it has been an integral part of his growing up years. "It takes me back to simpler, more innocent times, when we, as kids, listened to our inner voice and found happiness in the smallest things," he says.
