I’ve often stepped into stores after liking a certain shirt design, only to return home empty-handed. All because the smallest size was still big for me, or the brand’s designer decided to put a print on the front pocket, or on the back. Don’t get me wrong, but if I want to wear prints, shouldn’t I buy a T-shirt? Usually, I am not choosy about what I wear, but why would anyone mess up a perfectly well-cut shirt is beyond my comprehension.

With these problems, I thought of getting a shirt stitched for me, but unfortunately, I could never make time to visit the local tailor. And, whenever I did, the tailor wasn’t around. The plan has been on hold for two years now. Fortunately, I’ve found an alternative: 16stitches.com, a website where you can customise your shirt, as per your size and fit, from the comfort of your home or office.
You can select from different print options, decide on collar styles, back and front pleats, pockets, buttons and cuffs, among other things. You can also add personalised monograms, use contrasting fabrics in the collars and cuffs for an extra R150 each. Plus, for measurements, there’s a handy guide to help you measure by yourself. My lone grudge is the pricing that is much higher than average shirt prices.
But if you’re looking for personalised style, and fit, this should be your go-to tailor.
