As the first of our year ending features, HitList takes a look at some of the box office duds this year that fell flat on their faces despite a publicity blitzkrieg. Kunal M Shah lists out 2012's most over-hyped duds

Films that sunk without a trace!

Players
Players

Director: Abbas-Mustan
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Neil Mukesh.
Hype: The official remake of Hollywood’s The Italian Job, the film was talked about mainly because of Abbas Mustan and its garangutan cast with Neil to be the surprise package. Boy, were they in for a rude surprise!u00a0
The end result: The film tanked right from the word go and there were huge losses to every investor associated with the film.u00a0

Agent Vinod
Agent Vinod

Director: Sriram Raghvan
Cast: Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor
Hype: Said to be the Indian version of James Bond, the film was shot over seven countries. It was to be Saif and Kareena’s last film together before they got married. Viewers suggested they re-title the film Travel Agent Vinod.
The end result: The film failed to live up to expectations and the feature’s length was primarily blamed. It turned out to be a box office dud.

Dangerous Ishhq
Dangerous Ishhq

Director: Vikram Bhatt
Cast: Karisma Kapoor, Jimmy Sheirgill, Rajnish Duggal and Ravi Kishan.
Hype: Karishma’s comeback film as an actress, Himesh Reshammiya’s music and the 3D plot of past life regression all created curiosity. But viewers weren’t aware the film would be this much of a horror.
The end result: The film failed to take any opening and sank without a trace. The mixed reviews did not help either.

Department
Department

Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Duggabatti
Hype: Ramu’s film with Bachchan after Sarkar, Dutt working with Ramu after Daud and Ramu’s tried and tested formula on the cops and underworld, and to top it all the controversy between Ramu and Dutt added to the hype.
The end result: The film failed in every department and can easily be termed as Ramu’s second worst film after Aag.

Teri Meri Kahaani
Teri Meri Kahaani

Director: Kunal Kohli
Cast: Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra
Hype: The film was made when Sasha was dating Piggy Chops and that contributed to most of the hype around this film’s release. Also that the film portrayed time leaps also added to the buzz.
The end result: The film neither got a decent opening nor any positive review. Such a waste of their real-life love story. Tch, tch!
