"Honestly speaking, after all the aggressive explicit scenes I did in Dev D, I was apprehensive ofu00a0 facing the fury and flak from the local media in my hometown Chandigarh.

But to my pleasant shock, they all came up to me and complimented me for my spontaneous performance.

They said that they simply loved my character and missed me in the climax," gushes Mahie Gill who is on a 'high' ever since stalwart Naseeruddin Shah conveyed his appreciation through her Dev D director Anurag Kashyap.

When Anurag had first approached her for the role, she'd turned it down, she admits, "That's true. I was hesitant to accept the character, because I thought it would be huge pressure to play Paro. But Anurag motivated me to sign on Dev D.

It's a huge compliment for me that my director modified the Paro character to match my off-screen persona and behaviour.

Except for the smoking bit, carrying the mattress to the fields and clicking semi-nude pics, the screen-avatar is my real-life extension of sorts. I know that the bold permissive Paros live in rural areas," insists Gill.u00a0

Gill was supposed to debut in Kashyap's No Smoking. "It just didn't work out," she says.

Mahie literally danced her way into director Kashyap's movie when she spotted her the first time, "Gosh, you know about this.

It was at a birthday party hosted by actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya (he plays Chunnilal in Dev D) where I indulged in frenzied dancing to filmi numbers for nearly three hours.

That's when Anuragji who was watching, connected with me and decided I would be his Paro," she recalls fondly.

Next, Mahie will be seen in Kashyap's Gulaal "It's an extended friendly appearance where I am dancing to two sensuous mujra numbers."

There are two more movies including this wacko comedy Aage Se Right opposite Shreyas Talpadeu00a0 where I play this bubbly TV reporter and a period historical Paan Singh Tomar directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia opposite Irrfan Khan.
