This Salsa expert, who's broken the Guiness World record for the maximum number (39) of Swing Dance Flips in a minute on a TV show is all set to open his own studio in Mumbai this weekend and then to host the Indian International Salsa Congress in August. He tells CS what got him to do chiggy wiggy:
Dirty dancing
Michael Jackson, our Bollywood actors, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan all got me interested in dancing. Actually, this was also the time when I saw films like Dance With Me, Shall We Dance and so on. What really hooked me on is the whole idea of performing in front of an audience. Also, making a girl dance without even saying a word to her intrigued me.
Train fame
In India, Bollywood films are showcasing Salsa, but it gets lost in all the filmy beats and moves. In fact, I'd love to have Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor do Salsa the way it's done world over. These two are extremely talented and it'd be a pleasure to train them. Also, the Indian audience has evolved a lot. Next year, along with others, I will organise the Salsa World Cup in Hong Kong, where professionals and amateurs both can compete and the prize money will be Rs 30 lakh.
