Latest instalment of Fukrey has a strong opening weekend with Rs 32-crore collection
A year that has seen the debacle of several big-ticket outings has been generous to Excel Entertainment's Fukrey Returns. A sequel to the 2013 sleeper hit Fukrey, part two has earned Rs 32 crore over the opening weekend. The earning is only Rs 4 crore short of the lifetime business of the franchise's first outing.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra says the film can expect to cross the Rs 50 crore mark. "The comedy has almost recovered the costs. I won't be surprised if it manages to collect Rs 50-60 crore. With no big releases scheduled to hit screens this week, Fukrey Returns has an added advantage. It will reflect in better numbers at the box office." Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi credits the first film for establishing the characters well.
"The popularity of the original film created curiosity about this version. Everyone expected it to do well, but the opening collections have surprised us. It will keep marching on."
