Background dancer from original 'Laila' song features in 'Raees' version too

In the original 'Laila O Laila' song from 'Qurbani' (1980), he appears quite a few times behind Zeenat Aman, swinging with the guitar. Thirty-six years on, he's made it to the recreated version of the iconic track in 'Raees'. Background dancer Bulbul, now 58, can be seen holding up a lamp and cheering Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Leone on as they groove in the item number.

Ask him to compare the two songs and he says, "Zeenatji was one of the biggest actresses of her time and the same can be said of Sunny Leone now. The original is a rage even today, and I am a little biased towards it, but I am sure the new one will be a chartbuster too. Jaise who gaane pe logon ne seeti maari thi, main chahta hoon isko bhi waisa response mile."

Bulbul found out about the song being redone from a friend's son, also a background dancer in the track. "The next day, I went with him to the studio and met choreographer Bosco Martis. I told him that I was part of the old song, but he refused to believe me. He said,'Chacha, mazaak mat karo'. I showed him my stills from the song and he was taken aback. He decided to take me on board."

He calls Sunny a'natural dancer' and adds, "Shah Rukh bhai toh best dancer hai. He is not performing in this song; his presence is enough."

He says he always dreamt of becoming an actor. "I was always fascinated by films. Dilip Kumar is my favourite hero. But jo naseeb main likha hai wahi hota hai. I have no regrets," adds Bulbul, who has worked as a spot boy too. The last film he worked on was Rohit Shetty's 'Dilwale', also starring SRK.
