Songstress Asha Bhosle, who is grappling with the loss of her son Hemant, has expressed her inability to perform at an event to be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

"@narendramodi Pranam. Due to sudden tragic loss of my son Hemant, I have to bow out from your 2 Oct Delhi function. My sincere apologies," Asha Bhosle tweeted on Thursday.
The "Piya tu ab to aaja" singer, whose versatility is enviable for musical talents, was slated to perform at the India Today Safai Singathon on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, with a host of other popular singers, including Daler Mehndi.
Modi, on his part, expressed condolences to the veteran singer.
“Dear @ashabhosle Tai, pained on the unfortunate demise of your son. My thoughts are with you during this hour of grief,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of Modi read.
Asha Bhosle's son died in Scotland after battling cancer.
