Budding writer Kapil Chopra has filed a case of plagiarism against the filmmakers, alleging they stole his story to make their forthcoming sequel 'Jannat 2'

Are Bhatts in trouble again?

The Bhatts are at the receiving end of a string of allegations once again. A Mumbai-based budding writer named Kapil Chopra has filed a case against the Bhatts for plagiarism. He alleges that their latest project, the sequel of Jannat, is his story and has demanded credit as a storywriter.

The hearing of the case took place last evening and was presided over by Justice Dharma Adhikari. Our source was present in the court and reveals the details of the case, “Kapil had registered his story with the Film Writers Association in 2007. He knew the director of the film, Kunal Deshmukh very well. He had narrated the script to him and had also left a bound copy at Bhatts office.”

The source adds, “When Kapil saw the promos of the film he realised that it was his story. The characters, plot and the dialogues were strikingly similar to his script. He met Kunal and Mukesh Bhatt but they denied his allegation. The young writer filed his case against the producers who are allegedly known for lifting films.”

A source close to the writer says, “Our industry has become immune to plagiarism. It’s one thing to copy films but how can you steal someone’s unpublished work and not even give credit to the person?

This hasn’t happened with Kapil for the first time. The Bhatts used a few scenes from his script in Blood Money and Murder 2. But Kapil ignored those as coincidences. But this time they have stolen his entire script. How could he not move the court?”

The law firm Krishnamurthy and Co is representing Kapil. A source reveals, “They have demanded an injunction on the release of the film and have also demanded for due credit.” u00a0In the meanwhile, Kapil and his lawyers chose not to comment on the matter saying its subjudice.u00a0The spokesperson of the Bhatts too chose not to comment on the story.u00a0
