After Cannes, it's Venice for Nawaz

Three of his films were screened at the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival and yet another film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui is headed for the international festival circuit.

Nawaz’s film Anwar Ka Ajeeb Kissa, directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, will be showcased at the Venice film festival, which will kickstart from August 28 onwards. And these days, the actor is busy dubbing for the project in order to be able to submit the film to the organising committee in Venice on time.

Nawaz’s character, just like him hails from a small town and is a detective by profession.

A source close to the actor says, “The film is currently in the post-production stage and Nawaz has kept aside bulk dates and has been dubbing nonstop for his portions. The makers, too, are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the film is ready on time for submission.”

Incidentally, the National Award-winning director’s Uttara had won him Special Director Award at the celebrated film fest back in 2000.

After its premiere at Venice, the film -- which was shot mostly in Kolkata -- will be travelling across the globe only to get an India release next year.

“Dasgupta’s films, thanks to the human subjects they deal with, are known for striking the chord with global audiences irrespective of where they come from,” sums up another source.u00a0
