TV actor informed of a 'criminal record'; he blames passport fraud for the misunderstanding

Aamir Ali had applied for a Canadian visa three weeks back. On Monday, he learnt that he was being denied entry to the country. He was to go there for a show with other TV actors who left last night.

What criminal record?
Aamir says, "I was informed that I was being denied a visa because of a criminal record on my passport. I was shocked because I have travelled around the world and not faced this problem before. The thought that he was being denied entry into Canada because of his religion did cross his mind, "Yes, that was my initial reaction. But then Sanjeeda (Sheikh) as well as Rakshanda (Khan) didn't have issues, so obviously there had to be another reason."

Things became clear when the visa officers asked him if he'd travelled to the country in 2001. "I hadn't been to Canada in 2001. They informed me that I had a problem with the law in that year, which was quite strange."

Misused document
Aamir later realised that in 2001 he had handed his passport to a show organiser, who later told him it was lost. "This guy Nandu Tolani had my passport because he was applying for a visa for my travel for a music video shoot.

One day he came to me and said he'd lost my passport, and I applied for a new one. The Canadian authorities informed me that my passport was misused by someone to get into their country by illegal means."

Now, Ali has contacted the Canadian Prime Minister's office and sought permission from them to attend the event. "I now realise how valuable and important a document like a passport is and how it can be misused so easily. However, I will getu00a0 a chance to travel to the country."u00a0
