Vishal Bhardwaj says he could collaborate with acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, despite language barrier, for their shared vision
Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi communicates only in Persian, although he does speak a smattering of English. He turns to a translator during interviews and on the set. Yet, his limited knowledge of the language doesn't keep filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj from striking a conversation with him.

Bhardwaj, who penned the Hindi dialogues of Majidi's Beyond The Clouds, tells mid-day, "Majidi respects authorship in cinema. If he wanted to improvise the dialogues I had written, he would first consult me via his translator. I would help him out from wherever I was, whether in India or in the US, or anywhere else."
Given that this is Majidi's first outing set in India, he was keen to include Hindi dialogues to capture the nuances of the city. He turned to Bhardwaj, who, for the first time, offered his writing skills for a project that he wasn't producing.

"I am a fan of Majidi's work and respect him as a filmmaker. We speak different languages, yet, we were able to understand each other's ideas and vision. It is fascinating how universal the language of cinema is," Bhardwaj says. Beyond The Clouds is a slice-of-life film set in Mumbai, and features Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khattar, who makes his acting debut with this outing.
