A source said, "The film had generated a fair amount of buzz across the border, but the Central Board of Film Censors feels the usage of a few words, including Pakistan and ISI, is inappropriate and in poor taste."
Last month, Varun Dhawan had clarified that there was no anti-Pakistan sentiment in the film.
However, Pakistan-based film critic, Babar Sheikh, said, "The Board must have seen something (negative) that prompted them to ban the film. Fans of Varun, John and Jacqueline are upset about it (the ban). The loss to makers on account of this won't be great since films are exported to Pakistan on lumpsum payment. However, it is true that every penny counts in this business." The film's spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
