Donald Trump
The former US president was a frequent at the Met Gala. It was also where he proposed to his wife Melania Trump. However, when Anna Wintour appeared on The Late Show with James Corden, she confirmed that she would never invite Trump to the event again, confirming that he was banned for real.
Tim Gunn
Author and fashion presenter Tim Gunn confirmed that he was banned in a 2016 interview with E! Entertainment's Fashion Police. He said, “I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.’ All hell broke loose. It was insane. We’ve had an open war ever since.”
Lili Reinhart
American actor Lili Reinhart, known for portraying Betty Cooper in the series 'Riverdale' has been vocal about promoting body positivity. She missed the invitation to the 2023 Met Gala despite attending it in 2018, 2019, and 2021. This was because she slammed Kim Kardashian’s extreme diet to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s gown which the reality TV star wore in 2022.
Josh Hartnett
‘Pearl Harbour’ actor Josh Hartnett was rejected from the event for being irrelevant. A 2016 documentary featuring behind the scenes of the Met showed Calvin Klein asking to dress Josh and having him on his table, a Vogue employee was heard remarking, "What has he done lately? Nothing. You guys are all set.”
Zayn Malik
Former One Direction star Zayn Malik attended the Met in 2016 with his then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid. Two years later when he was asked if he’d make an appearance again, Zayn told GQ, “Now it’s not something I would go to, I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet…to do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”
Amy Schumer
Actor-comedian Amy Schumer may have not been banned but she was very opinionated on what she thought of the fashion extravaganza. In an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, she said, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce...We’re dressed up like a bunch of f***ing assholes. I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion...I don’t care.”
Demi Lovato
Singer Demi Lovato who went to the Met Gala in 2016 spoke about the experience two years later in an interview with Billboard. They said, “I had a terrible experience. This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”
