Bollywood actress Dia Mirza, who continues to play diverse and multifaceted roles as a climate champion, is a respected, credible voice, speaking up for environmental and wildlife conservation in the country and a torchbearer of eco-sensitivity. On World Environment Day 2024, Dia exclusively tells mid-day.com about moving to Mumbai from Hyderabad and picking the perfect abode all for its dense green cover, her favourite food in the maximum city, and more.

Dia was asked to name a green space she frequents with her kids, to which the actress replied stating her garden. She elaborates, “The first time I went house hunting in Bandra, I was brought to this building where we're sitting right now in this home. I was all of 20 and I walked around the building and saw this beautiful lush garden with big trees and the whole apartment, is surrounded by a big dense green cover and tall trees old trees and I'm from Hyderabad. So I was like, ‘This is amazing’. I'll be able to look out to greenery and one day hopefully my kids will play here. This is my sanctuary and this is where we live and spend so much of our time and the children go to the garden every day. Avyaan definitely does. We watch birds together, walk in the soil, and grass, and grow plants. It's everything I ever hoped for.”

Dia has also ventured into green entrepreneurship as an eco-investor to support sustainable businesses like Greendigo, Shumee, Beco, and Allter.  To purchase eco-friendly and sustainable products in the city, she mentions that there are a multitude of options available online. However, she gets her groceries and fresh produce from The Farmers' Store located in Pali Hill, Bandra.

Dia and her husband Vaibhav Rekhi are big-time foodies who love to gorge on world cuisine. Their go-to spots in Mumbai are Izumi and Royal China for the Asian fare and for a wholesome meal of Hyderabadi biryani, they love Kakori House. When it comes to street food, the ‘Dhak Dhak’ actor loves vada pav and pani puri. She recommends Guru Kripa to grab a bite.

Dia commenced her acting journey with ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ and has been a part of celebrated films like ‘Dum’, ‘Dus’, ‘Sanju’, and ‘Thappad’ among others. Sharing her advice to those who want to make it big in Mumbai, Dia concludes, “The most beautiful thing about Mumbai is that it's an embracing city. It just envelops you. What I love most about it is that it doesn't judge you. It can be extremely difficult to live in because it's a very expensive city to live in. But somehow I feel like those who have resilience, consistency, and talent, always find their dreams come true here.”
