The concept of "power posing" first came into the public limelight through a 2010 study by Dana R. Carney, Amy Cuddy, and Andy Yap, published in the journal Psychological Science. The idea turned heads and gained widespread attention with Amy Cuddy's influential TED talk in 2012, which nudged that adopting expansive postures could positively influence one's feelings of power and confidence. Ever since – this notion has sparked debates and further research into the psychological and physiological effects of body language.

In today’s episode (5th August 2024) of CNN News18's Breakfast Club-Ridhima Dua known for her expertise in New Code NLP and Dr. Kapil Kakkar a psychologist with a deep understanding of body language took a deep dive into the concept of power poses.

This early morning discussion aimed to break down the science and synergies of posture, body language, and the way we hold and present ourselves while also offering rich, practical, and doable insights for viewers.

Ridhima Dua stands out as a notable personality in personal change with an impressive history that stretches across more than 18 years dedicated to teaching and guiding others. Breaking new ground as the initial female from India to embrace the role of a New Code NLP Trainer Mentor and Coach she has left a lasting mark on over 30,000 people from 55 different nations. She is skilled in the area of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and she applies this to bring about comprehensive transformation that touches on the bodily mental emotional and spiritual aspects of life.

The International Trainers Academy (ITCA) has given Ridhima recognition as a New Code NLP trainer utilising innovative methods to address the nuances of neurological, physiological, and psychological factors.

During the panel talk, Ridhima Dua explored the complex world of power poses diving into how they can change the way one feels and acts.

In the same vein, she pointed out the strong impact that adopting power poses can have on a person's body and mind shaping how they think and act.

"Confidence is a very subjective agenda," she noted, highlighting that it depends on various factors such as neurological circuitry, thought patterns, and personal experiences. Ridhima explained that the impact of a power pose is deeply tied to the individual's intent and the depth of their desire to feel confident.

Illustrating a holistic approach Ridhima delved into a recommendation to help individuals internalise confidence –“You can see the way you feel confident, hear the sound of confidence, and it in your body internally,” She emphasized that to truly reap the benefits of power poses, one must commit to practicing them regularly and consistently.

Just as athletes and celebrities frequently refine specific stances or moves, this repetition helps create neural pathways that enhance confidence. By training their micro-muscles, individuals can develop a habit of shifting into a power pose, which Ridhima described as "confidence is overrated—instant shift is the new power."

She further said, "When they walk like that repeatedly, a specific biochemical reaction occurs, making them feel more assured and grounded in their body."

Ridhima emphasized that this training involves more than just posture; it’s about conditioning the body's physiology and neurological responses. This process becomes unconscious, as the brain becomes accustomed to the power pose, leading to increased clarity and courage.

She explained this process, “Training our physiology involves triggering biochemical reactions and neurological processes, which eventually become an unconscious act for us, as the brain starts to associate with those power poses giving us confidence and clarity.”

Ridhima Dua concluded "It has to be very personal and practiced well. After a lot of practice, shifting your body even a little can still create an impactful power pose. For me, power sometimes means stepping into an observer position to reflect or simply listening to Gurbani. I believe–power can be found in simplicity too!”

This tete-a-tete helps one understand the science behind power and maneuver through challenging situations in life with more grace, poise, and ease.
