In Indian cinema, a new visionary group called XTHTX FILMLAB is breaking traditions and showing what can be done with few resources. This production company was started by five independent filmmakers-Lolly Sawant, Vatsal Nanavati, Rishil Shah, Sameer Bhosle, and Kartik Mistry. They have reached an important milestone in filmmaking.

Their sci-fi short film GO-CHI, inspired by Netflix's Sacred Games, showed grand visuals and epic storytelling at a scale unexpected from an indie cinema. With jaw-dropping visual effects rivalling big-budget Hollywood productions, GO-CHI has set a mark in the industry with sheer passion, determination, and ingenuity.
The journey behind this cinematic marvel is nothing short of inspiring. The five founders, fresh out of film school, wanted to create a movie with quality visuals and storytelling- something India had never witnessed before. However, they faced a challenge-lack of funding. The team made an audacious decision: they would self-fund the project by pooling their salaries, amassing an incredible Rs. 12.7 lakhs.
It was a challenging 3-year effort, with over 1.3 years spent just on rendering. A small team of 5 people did the work, typically requiring over 50 artists. They had to manage an immense amount of data. Despite facing many challenges like computer issues and lack of sleep, the team's passion for their work helped them persevere through every obstacle.
"When we started this journey, we knew the odds were stacked against us," said Lolly Sawant, co-founder of XTHTX FILMLAB. "But we were driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a belief that our vision could push the boundaries of Indian cinema." Their perseverance paid off.
GO-CHI has won many awards and was shown at essential film festivals like Worldfest Houston, FICCI BAF 2024, and the Dada Saheb Phalke Awards. Its success has made XTHTX FILMLAB a respected name, showing that excellent visuals and storytelling can be created with limited resources and dedication to creativity.
But XTHTX FILMLAB is just getting started. The founders have set their sights on changing Indian cinema with their upcoming feature films "Indian cinema is at the peak of a Renaissance, and we are committed to being at the forefront of this transformation," remarked Rishil Shah. "Our goal is to create films that not only captivate audiences but also inspire a new generation of filmmakers to dream bigger and push the limits of what's possible."
XTHTX FILMLAB keeps making significant progress. Their story shows the importance of determination, creativity, and striving for excellence. They have proven that with the right vision and total commitment, even the most significant challenges can be overcome. This is opening up a new era of bold Indian cinema.
