The 70th National Film Awards ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhavan on October 8, honoring the exceptional talents of the Indian film industry for their contributions in 2022. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the prestigious event, presenting the awards to this year's accomplished recipients in a grand ceremony that was broadcast live on Doordarshan's YouTube channel.

Designer Niki Joshi shone brightly among the celebrated winners, receiving the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for her meticulous work on the Gujarati film Kutch Express. Hence, Niki became the first designer from Gujarat to receive this award, making history in the process.

Niki Joshi's costumes beautifully reflected the cultural essence of Kutch, bringing a unique authenticity to the film and elevating its visual storytelling. Her attention to detail and dedication to portraying cultural nuances through costume design garnered immense appreciation from critics and audiences alike.

The success of Kutch Express extended beyond Joshi's award, as the film secured a total of three accolades at this year's National Film Awards. Talented actress Manasi Parekh won the Best Actress award for her powerful performance in the film, and director Viral Shah's vision was acknowledged with the Best Film Promoting National, Social, and Environmental Values award.

Reflecting on her win, Niki Joshi expressed deep gratitude, stating, "Receiving this award is not just a personal achievement; it is a recognition of the hard work of the entire team of Kutch Express. Designing for this film allowed me to dive deeply into the culture and spirit of Kutch, and I’m humbled by the appreciation for this work."

The National Film Awards, a celebration of India’s cinematic excellence, once again highlighted diverse and talented contributors across the industry, honoring filmmakers, actors, and designers who inspire audiences with their creativity and dedication.
