Daniela García García - Designing a Better World

Daniela Garcia Garcia

Daniela Garcia Garcia’s journey from Colombia to the global design stage is a testament to her unique blend of creativity, empathy, and technological expertise. Based in Boston, Daniela has carved a niche for herself by creating meaningful solutions to everyday challenges. With an impressive portfolio that spans corporate design, home health technology, and community leadership, she continues to redefine what it means to innovate through design.

Fless: Transforming Food Safety for Millions

Imagine sitting down at a restaurant and knowing exactly what’s safe to eat. That’s the vision Daniela brought to life with Fless, her groundbreaking thesis project. This handheld device uses advanced spectrophotometry to detect allergens in food, offering a lifeline to the 32 million Americans living with food allergies.

What makes Fless truly revolutionary is its attention to real user needs. Unlike existing products that detect only one allergen, Fless identifies multiple allergens with unlimited tests. Its discreet, ergonomic design ensures that users feel confident and at ease, while the companion app enhances the experience with features like allergy-friendly restaurant recommendations, an SOS button for emergencies, and a platform for sharing recipes and stories. Fless embodies Daniela’s belief in designing not just for function but also for human connection and safety.

Cafe Grind and Brew: Elevating Everyday Moments

Daniela’s expertise extends beyond conceptual designs to market-ready products. During her tenure at General Electric Appliances, she played a pivotal role in developing the Cafe Grind and Brew, a premium coffee maker that combines functionality with aesthetic appeal. Daniela’s contributions refined the user interface and ensured a seamless experience, making the product a favorite among coffee enthusiasts. Her work demonstrated her ability to merge engineering precision with human-centered design, a hallmark of her career.

Shaping the Design Community in Boston

While Daniela’s designs have improved lives on a personal level, her leadership has elevated the entire design community in Boston. Together with fellow designers Saloni Bedi and Hannah Oh, Daniela spearheaded the relaunch of the Boston chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

Beyond her efforts with IDSA, Daniela has also collaborated with universities like Wentworth Institute of Technology, sharing her expertise in CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) through panels and talks. These engagements have inspired emerging designers and strengthened the creative community in Boston. Her ability to bridge academia and professional practice has positioned her as a thought leader and mentor in the field.

Designing a Legacy

Daniela Garcia Garcia’s story is more than one of professional success-it’s a narrative of purpose-driven innovation. From the life-saving potential of Fless to the delightful everyday convenience of Cafe Grind and Brew, her contributions to CMF education, and her transformative impact on Boston’s design community, Daniela is proving that design can be a catalyst for change.

Through her work, Daniela continues to inspire others to dream bigger, design smarter, and build a better, more connected world.
