In a display of grace, dedication, and artistic brilliance students of Kathakbeats captivated a full house on Saturday at Master Deeenanth Mangeshkar Natyagruha, Vile Parle for Kalabhoomi 2024-a classical Kathak dance event. The event organized by Kathakbeats and presented by URivergate Karjat, drew attention not only for the skill of the performers but for the deep cultural significance woven into each routine which was curated by Sanika Prabhu. The event opened with a grand Ganapati Aarti piece presented by the curator of the event herself - Sanika Prabhu whose disciplined movements reflected years of training and passion. The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Sudhesh Bhosale, Neha Sargam, Aditi Bhagwat, Aetashaa Sansgiri and Kathak Guru Manjiri Deo and Taalmani Pt. Mukundraj Deo. Their attendance added a touch of prestige, as they praised the young dancers for their dedication to the classical art form of kathak.

The next set was led by Sanika’s Guru Nritya Alankar Harshada Jambekar along with her students Anushka Ghag, Radhika Joshi and Samiksha Malankar, who executed the Teentaal piece with complete precision, earning the audience’s applause from the very beginning. This was a complete Nrutya based dance set and included the nuances of Anga, Upaanga and Pratyanga.
A notable highlight was a mesmerizing Kathak performance by a group of young girls who performed the Bansi Batt - which included Lord Krishna’s pastimes when he would play the flute while herding the cows. The young performers brought out the rhythmic complexity of the dance, demonstrating exceptional coordination and control. Their ability to convey a range of emotions with subtle gestures and expressive eyes left many in the audience in awe.
The senior students of Kathakbeats (a classical dance academy which conducts kathak training in Mumbai and online) presented enchanting performances through their delicate steps and expressive hand gestures which offered the audience a window into aspects of Gat Nikas and Gat Bhaav that Kathak embodies. Proud parents and relatives beamed as the students performed with confidence and skill, demonstrating the results of weeks of rigorous practice.
Many in the audience were moved by the depth of cultural immersion that the event provided. "It’s wonderful to see the younger generation present the art from of Kathak with such discipline and clarity," said Prateek Dharkar, Director at URivergate Karjat - The title sponsor of the event Kalabhoomi 2024. The event was wonderfully hosted by Sanika Gadgil and Tejashree Vaidya, whose engaging presence added to the event’s charm. Their smooth transitions between performances, along with anecdotes about the significance of each set, kept the audience captivated throughout the program.
The biggest highlight of the event was the Ramayana Act which depicted the sequence from “Sita Apharan” up to “Ravan Vadh” with the aid of technology and LED visuals set up by Acoustique Productions and Team.
