India's pet industry is booming, with the sector expected to reach $2.5 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 20% over the next five years. This is great news for pet lovers as it means better care opportunities for their beloved animals. Amidst this rapid growth, Petzzco stands out as a comprehensive one-stop shop for all pet care needs. Aiming to become a pet care unicorn, the company has recently announced former cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri as their brand ambassador, further solidifying its commitment to excellence and community engagement in the pet care industry. In an exclusive interview with Mid-Day,  Raj Kantak, Founder of Petzzco, shared insights into the company's mission, services, and the impact of their recent association with Shastri.

"Pet lovers often have a strong bond with their pets and seek guidance and recommendations from people they admire. Since Ravi Shastri is an avid pet lover himself, he can connect with Petzzco's target audience on an emotional level. Having him as a brand ambassador can significantly increase Petzzco's brand awareness. His association with the company will generate positive media attention and public interest. This strategic partnership is set to bolster trust and credibility for the Petzzco brand," commented Kantak.

With 111 unicorns in the country, a pet care firm can become a unicorn soon. This unprecedented growth is driven by increased pet ownership, with six out of ten households now having pets. India boasts about four crore pets and eight crore stray animals, with pet adoption growing at 6% annually. Millennials, in particular, treat their pets like family and are willing to invest in premium pet services and brands.

"Rising disposable incomes and dual-income households, especially in urban centers, have given the growing middle class more spending power to care for pets and purchase premium products and services. Today, considering pets as companions are normal, increasing the demand for nutritious foods, preventative healthcare, accessories, and more. This has increased demand for specialized premium pet foods and custom accessories. Additionally, pet services, such as grooming, training, pet sitting, and veterinary services, are booming across India. With digitization engulfing India, pet lovers are finding easier access to products for their furry friends," said Kantak.

Petzzco offers a wide range of services, from veterinary care and grooming to pet adoption and social networking for pet owners. Ravi Shastri joined Petzzo as a brand ambassador because he is in awe of the company's dedication to creating a one-stop platform for all pet care needs, fostering a strong community, and unwavering commitment to animal welfare and adoption. The company is also deeply committed to animal rescue and welfare. They partner with NGOs to support stray and community animals, promoting pet adoption over buying. Their dedication extends to the Petzzco app, with over 25,000 users sharing experiences and fostering a strong community focus.

"As the pet care industry expands, Petzzco remains at the forefront, combining high-quality pet care with a community-driven approach and a steadfast dedication to animal welfare. This holistic approach not only caters to the needs of pet owners but also contributes significantly to the betterment of animal lives across the country," adds Kantak.

The pet industry in India is multifaceted, with various segments offering ample opportunities for startups to grow and expand. Pet food dominates the market, accounting for about 70% of the total market share in India and over 40% globally. “There is a growing demand for premium and customized pet food products tailored to specific dietary requirements, age, and health conditions. Pet products contribute around 20% to the market share, including collars, leashes, beds, toys, and grooming products. The demand for high-quality and personalized pet accessories is rising, reflecting the changing lifestyle of pet owners. This market segment is projected to reach $0.5 billion by 2025. The Indian pet services market, which includes grooming, pet-sitting, walking, and veterinary care, is also expected to reach $0.5 billion by 2025,” he adds.

As the number of pet owners increases, the demand for professional pet care services is soaring, driving remarkable growth in this segment, and Petzzco is looking to capitalize on this.
