Eco BioTraps: Revolutionizing Mosquito Control with Sustainable Innovation

In the ongoing battle against mosquito-borne diseases in India, Eco BioTraps has emerged as a game-changer, offering a sustainable and effective solution. At the helm of this innovative venture is Founder and CEO, Prasad Phadke, whose vision and dedication have propelled Eco BioTraps to the forefront of mosquito control technologies.

The journey of Eco BioTraps began with a profound realization during a West Nile outbreak in the United States. Surrounded by buzzing mosquitoes, Prasad Phadke understood the global threat posed by these pests. This pivotal moment ignited a quest to develop a solution that would not only combat mosquitoes but also address the root cause of mosquito-borne illnesses.

According to Prasad Phadke, Eco BioTraps is the world’s first biodegradable ovitrap that breaks the chain of mosquito breeding. “It’s not a ‘repellant’. With Eco BioTraps we have created a new category of biodegradable ovitrap- automatic disintegration and dissemination,” he points out.

One of the key features of Eco BioTraps is its ability to mimic mosquito breeding environments, enticing female mosquitoes to lay eggs that never mature into adults. This strategy has proven highly effective, leading to a significant reduction in mosquito populations in areas where Eco BioTraps have been deployed.

One such success story lies in Dharavi, historically challenged by dengue outbreaks. Recent data shows a notable decline in dengue cases, attributed in part to the implementation of Eco BioTraps. This success has spurred partnerships with organizations like BMC's Smile incubator and the Insecticide Branch of the Public Health Department, expanding the reach of Eco BioTraps' impact.

Beyond its flagship product, Eco BioTraps, Prasad Phadke and his team at EcoBio Inc are committed to ongoing innovation. Plans are underway to enhance product efficacy, explore sustainable materials, and expand into international markets.

The team’s appearance on Sony Entertainment Television’s Shark Tank provided the team with significant marketing exposure, leading to a 50x increase in sales. The overwhelming consumer feedback not only boosted sales but also sparked widespread interest and inquiries about our unique non-repellent product.

“We often ask, 'ek ek karke kab tak maaroge?; jadd se bhagao' This belief underscores the importance of widespread adoption of Eco BioTraps for a deeper and broader impact. As a result, our product is primarily focused on B2B applications, targeting hospitals, construction sites, hotels, manufacturing facilities, and IT parks,” says Prasad.

Prasad Phadke asserts that educating the public about Eco BioTraps is crucial, given that it differs from traditional repellents.

“This motivates us to engage diverse audiences through media publications, television, our website, and on-ground activations. We prioritize listening to people, addressing their queries, and mobilizing communities in our collective fight against disease-carrying mosquitoes,” he adds.

Looking ahead, Eco BioTraps envisions a future where their innovative technology protects billions of lives and contributes significantly to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions. “Our expansion strategy includes entering 10 international markets, aiming to protect over 1 billion lives and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1000 metric tonnes,” he signs off.

With Eco BioTraps leading the charge in mosquito control innovation, Prasad Phadke's dedication to creating a healthier, mosquito-free world is evident. The impact of Eco BioTraps extends far beyond conventional repellents, marking a paradigm shift in disease prevention and environmental conservation.
