The man behind @frosto_89: Alpesh Rawal

Alpesh Rawal

Interviewer: So Alpesh, you are a 33-year-old father working in an industry and a society that usually has an expiry date on people in the public eye. How daunting has your journey been?

Alpesh: It is true that the media industry can be harsh as you age, but in my case, I have received nothing but immense support and love on my platform. I think people nowadays want to see someone they relate to and they relate to me. My followers are amazing and motivate me to constantly push out better and better content. The journey has been great and my being married or being a father hasn’t affected it in any way.

Interviewer: Let’s backtrack a little and tell me about your education, and how you decided to foray into influencing for a living.

Alpesh: After completing my graduation in mechanical engineering I decided to study further and pursued an MBA. After completing my MBA, I was recruited by a Europe-based firm and worked there for a while. Around 2015, I was approached by a brand who DM’d me and said that they’ll offer me free goodies and pay me if I posted about their brand. I was very sceptical but gave them my address. To my surprise, the goodies actually arrived, and yeah, that’s how it started.

Interviewer: Then how hard was it or is it to maintain a work-life balance? Or, in your case a work-work balance?

Alpesh: I left my day job at the firm and continued influencing full-time. Then I started my other businesses. One was a construction company, the other was my garba dance academy: Nav9rang and the last was my e-commerce start-up. After the lockdown, my construction company faced some losses. This led me to rejoin the corporate firm.I had to start from ground-up again. My efforts paid off and I was made the head of my department. But, my part-time work as an influencer and content creator led to my colleagues questioning my contribution at work. And then I fell sick and had to take a leave for a week. During this time I was posting pre-recorded content so once more, I was accused of taking a leave to create content. However, eventually they realised that this was not the case. Nav9rang has been going steady and we’ve expanded to over nine branches now.

Interviewer: You’ve collaborated with over 350 brands, all of which have various products. Do you not believe in the idea of having a niche?

Alpesh: When someone asks me what my niche is, I say “No niche is my niche.” I do not want to be type casted under one segment as there is a lot to do. And I want to do it all.
